Female Sumatran rhinoceros Dicerorhinus sumatrensis wallowing in mud. The Sumatran rhino is critically endangered, with fewer than 200 individuals thought to be left in the wild, and fewer than 40 in the one population on Borneo. This rhino is called Puntung, and she is around ten years old, in prime breeding age for this species. The wild population is considered unsustainable in the long term, and efforts are being made to capture the remaining wild animals to concentrate them in a breeding centre in Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Sabah, Malaysia, where this footage was filmed. Puntung has been resident here since January 2012.
