Snake-spotted millipedes (Blaniulus guttulatus) feeding on a windfall apple. These millipedes are minor agricultural pests that affect root crops such as sugar beet and potatoes. They infest holes in the crop that were created by other pests such as slugs, or as here, when the fruit falls to the ground. The snake-spotted millipede excretes chemicals from its glands (red spots) as a form of defence.
