Copper, mercury and magnesium metals. Copper (lower left) is a good conductor of heat and electricity. It is used mainly in water pipes and electrical cables. Mercury (upper centre) is a liquid metal at room temperature. It is used in thermometers and in the recovery of gold from ore. Magnesium (lower right) is a reactive metal. Its alloys are used in the construction industry.
