Cell division. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a neuroglia cell splitting into two new cells (cytokinesis) after mitosis. Mitosis is a form of cell division in which a cell's nucleus splits to form two identical copies of itself. These new nuclei move to opposite parts of the cell, and the cytoplasm between them constricts to leave only a thin bridge (centre), which eventually breaks. Neuroglia cells are supportive cells which make up around half the weight of the central nervous system. Magnification: x1500 at 6x7cm size.
