Hot water power accumulator tower. This 41-metre-high accumulator tower stores 2500 cubic metres of hot water, supplying heat to the surrounding Churchill Gardens housing estate, Pimlico, London, UK. This was the UK's first combined heat and power (CHP) network, built between 1947 and 1950. It originally used hot water piped under the River Thames from Battersea Power Station. It now uses a boiler, added in 2006 to an extended network. The tower, designed by architects Powell and Moya, is a Grade 2 listed building. District heating schemes increase energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Photographed in August 2013.
