Illustration of the fundus of the right eye of a patient with ocular albinism. The optic fundus is the interior surface of the eye opposite the lens. It includes the optic disc (circle at centre right), an area embedded in the retina where the optic nerve and blood vessels converge. Ocular albinism causes a reduction in pigment in the retina. It leads to severely impaired visual acuity (sharpness). From Traite d'Anatomie Humaine (1930) by French anatomist Leo Testut (1849-1925).
