
Secondary bone cancer of the spine. Coloured bone scintigram (frontal section) of vertebral bone metastases (pink) in the spine of a 72-year-old male patient with prostate cancer. The cancer has spread (metastasised) from the prostate gland to affect 4 vertebrae (T5, L1, L2 and L3) of the patients spine. The prognosis is poor when a cancer has spread from its primary site to the patients bones. A scintigram is used to highlight tissues in the body through detecting gamma radiation emitted by a Technetium-99m (Tc-99m) radioactive tracer.
