MALT lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (white blood cell cancer) that affects the mucus-producing tissues in the bodys lymphatic system. It arises from cancerous B cells (a type of white blood cell) accumulating in the MALT, usually after a reaction to an inflammation or infection. This type of lymphoma affects more women than men, and the average age at diagnosis is 65 years. Treatment is by removing the affected salivary gland and with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
