Aerial view of Barringer Meteor Crater, Arizona, USA. The Barringer Crater was recognised as a meteor impact crater early in the 20th century and is thought to be about 25,000 years old. Several attempts to mine the iron-rich material of the meteor were made before a visitor centre was built in the 1960s. The crater is in north-eastern Arizona, near Winslow, and is about 200 metres deep and 800 metres across.
