The guards have their own bugler at the changing of the guard LAC. J. A. Nightingales, of West End, Brisbane. In the north west of Australia specially picked guards are trained to protect units which many be required to operate from newly captured air strips. The guards are trained to give protection against paratroop, infiltration or air attack against strips. They are regarded as the R.A.A.F. They hold a daily ceremonial changing of the guard. They are trained on purely infantry lines, and are the only R.A.A.F men armed with the Owner gun. The guards train with naked steel and ball ammunition. They provide probably the most complete ground protection available to any air unit in the South West Pacific. November 28, 1949. (Photo by Department Of Air).
