Crete: A German Troop ***** To Its Doom -- A cloud of smoke marks the place where the German troops carrier crashed, while parachute troops from another aircraft descent to meet the fire of the British troops. On Crete the German bombing of the ***** near Candia, was followed by "ground strafing ***** Messerschmitts. While these fighters patrolled the bombed area, troop-carrying aircraft followed in, escorted by bombers. Parachute troops, of whom 60-70 per cent were destroyed before reaching ground, were then dropped.
