Harpy eagle chick (Harpia harpyja) flapping its wings while standing in the nest. The harpy eagle is the largest, most powerful raptor in the Americas. By weight it is the largest eagle in the world. Habitat and shooting are the two chief threats to their survival. They have no natural predators and are apex predators. They prey on mammals including armadillos, sloths, monkeys and opossums, large birds such as macaws and currasows, and also on reptiles such as iguanas and snakes.
